Amsterdam Christmas

 

Artilleriet has filled its webshop with some lovely Christmas news. I fell for these veneer lanterns (with LED battery), inspired by the classic Amsterdam canal houses with their beautiful façades. Of course sold out, but it says to be temporarily. A Christmas gift, maybe?

Sober minimalism

I have waited for these pictures to come online since I saw them in the Danish magazine Bo Bedre recently. I could even claim that this must be the most inspiring home I have seen this year. I love all the handpicked design in it, the clean look and cosy atmosphere with elements from nature. It feels like a real showroom (in a good way) with thousands of beautiful products designed by Norm Architects and I must admit I had a crush on many of them due to this article. The little Milk lamp with black legs I already own, but other details qualified for my never-ending wish list.

The home belongs to the Architect and Co-Owner of Norm Architects, Jonas Bjerre Poulsen, his wife Christine and their two children. All nice magazine magazine pictures were not availble online but I hope you got a glimpse and some inspiration, too!

Christmas tree decorations

Before the year is changing I thought I would need to post some pictures from my Christmas tree decorations as well. This year I bought a few crocheted Christmas stars at the Christmas market in town. I thought they were so cute and unusual. The ceramic stars are Danish, the brown balls (these are my favourites and made of recycled Venetian blinds) as well as the white paper balls are Finnish. The rest I do not remember...

I thought very much of the Karen Blixen decorations this year, but maybe a wish for next Christmas then?

Christmas card

This is my Christmas greeting and card to you my readers! A very Merry Christmas to you!

I am enjoying the first morning of my Christmas holiday (11 days!) and I cannot remember when I last have waited this much for Christmas. Long, delicious breakfasts, blogging, reading books, watching movies (I aim to see Love Actually some day, a real Christmas movie that I do not remember the story of anymore.. do you recommend it?), delicious food, baking, family, friends, relatives, gym, health, fixing at home, sleeping, cafés, sales, strolling around in the town and all the things you want to do when working and there is never time. Hope you will enjoy the free days as much as I will try to do!

But first I wish you a very calm and relaxing Christmas Eve and Christmas days! For the time being I am rhyming on the Christmas gifts...! :)

Third Sunday of Advent

 

A few pictures from the 3rd Sunday of Advent. The sun was up for a while only and I took some hasty pictures. This weekend afforded a bracing surprise when I walked down to the town yesterday. Local designers and art students organized a lovely Christmas market inside the campus and they were selling a lot of personal and unique posters, cards, textiles, decorations et cetera. I botanized and shopped a few things.

The paper star(s) above I have bought earlier in December in a pop-up shop and if you feel like doing similar stars of your own, I found some good and simple instructions here, how to do it! With cheerful paper you can keep them all year round.
 

Gingerbread mittens

 

Time for gingerbreads. I admire these made by Fine Little Day. Cut out with a butter knife.

I have the habit of collecting all kinds of gingerbread forms. This year I spotted the Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower here, which would be so nice to have...!

Christmas is dancing out

 

 

Many bloggers have thrown out Christmas already a long time ago and are speaking about spring. I must be the only one to still have the Christmas tree inside and that have not even had time to photograph it until now (I feel miserable about that). The time before Christmas is so hectic so I do not understand the rush to throw everything out after three holy days. On the Twentieth Day Knut the Christmas is dancing out by me. I will enjoy the rest of Ephiphany today and remove Christmas during the upcoming weekend. The winter evenings are very dark here so I  want to keep the lights for a while still.

Christmas ornaments

 

 

The selection of Christmas tree decorations seems to have exploded the last few years. As soon as you have bought some really nice stuff, there are a lot of other equally nice stuff popping up everywhere else. Everybody seems to be doing decorations nowadays. Design brands, professionals, creative or and non-creative souls. All looking good. And if you are really following some kind of threads or styles in your decoration and do not throw everyhting in there in a glorious mess, you would at least need seven different trees to have place for everything. Phew! I have some boxes in my cupboard that do not go with this or that style and on top of that I am thinking of getting some more still. But more is more for once! Bring it on the bling-bling Christmas! Here you have some of my favourite selections from this year's supply. Did I forget anything?

Last Christmas

Today is the day to take in my spruce. My brother-in-law has been kind to fetch one for me this year and I am eager to see what it looks like and decorate it. It is only a smaller one as I do not think there is so much space for any in full-size right now. Anyhow, the Christmas spirit is there and if only all gifts would be ready soon I am looking forward to just potter about in my home, bake and maybe try some Xmas DIYs this last week before the holidays. These pictures are from last year and my favourite decorations in the Christmas tree. I am sure they will find their place this year, too.

Second Advent

 

 

It is a real challenge to photograph in the evening dark, but I hope you anyway can see my new work of art, made by Ditte Gjøde?  I like the colours in it! So me! I found a light wooden frame that I thought matched the nuances in the best way.

 

Look through Ditte's whole beautiful gallery here. I thinks the Glimpse family is just awesome and I had a real hard time choosing. This one ended up as my favourite (it is number #5), but take a look also at the other ones that I selected to a previous collage here.

 

The rest of the evening I will spend in the TV-sofa (so worth it after all unneccessary Christmas stress..!) with cappuccino looking through the last two episodes of Revenge. Hope all is well! Happy new week!

 

 

Christmas heart by Le Klint

It is November already and we are going with rapid speed towards Christmas and the decorations. I got to think about Le Klint's window decoration, the white heart. Supernice and I think it would look very good in combination with or in contrast to the traditional white paper stars. The hearts are available in different sizes and folded in the same material as Le Klint's other famous lampshades.

 

And why not? You can also use it on special days like birthdays, St. Valentine's Day and weddings. When buying a heart you also contribute to the Love & light project, which support different charitable purposes every year. A hearty thought.

The hearts remind me of those simple red and white or red and green paper hearts that you folded as a kid. Maybe these new ones are just an ennobled and more exclusive variant of those? Hmm. Gave me another old-time idea that I probably would need to suggest for Le Klint...

 

 

St. Knut's Day

 

Tomorrow is Tjugondag Knut (see here), that is, if the Christmas trees and decorations have not been taken down by now, tomorrow is the last day. Hurry...!

Cosy Christmas

 

I started the morning by reading a fashion magazine and the horoscope said:

 

The Christmas will be nice and cosy in a homelike way. You concentrate on being together rather than on a huge amount of presents.

 

I left out "...a table loaded with Christmas food and drink" as it sounded so boring to be without that.

 

No, I do not trust horoscopes but if they are nice I do. The food and get-together emphasis sound nice. And I am sure it will be special and very enjoyable and homelike during Christmas. All things after the moving are soon in place and I can just curl up with warm socks in the sofa, eat peanuts and marmelade and burn candles.

 

But anyway. Wish lists need to be done. I do not have a clue right now. But here is at least one version. It might change still...Enjoy!

Christmas decorations

Stilleben shop has opened a new web shop and they have a lot of cute things for your Christmas tree.  Take a look at the nice and cosy Christmas decorations (2, 4-6)! Wooden hearts and owls, stars and funguses.

There are also some new Christmas items in Iittala's webshop. I picked the  frosty lantern and stylish glass balls as my favourites (1,3). The glass balls belong to Iittala's new series "Sarjaton".  I like the pattern looking like a forest.
